Rural Access Hub assists residents with brain health services
The Rural Access Hub (RAH) maintains walk in hours are from 11am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday, however, staff can be utilized outside walk in hours with proper notification. This site offers a wide array of resources for those experiencing brain health concerns of both emergency and non-emergency status.The RAH does not only provided services of the crisis/emergency nature.
New Organization Forms: Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BCSPC)
The Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BCSPC) is a newly formed organization working to become a 501(c)(3). The coalition is comprised of organizations and individuals who have been affected by suicide in some way and have a vision to eliminate suicides in Benton County.According to the CDC, suicide rates decreased 37% from 2008-2018, decreased by another 5% from 2018-2020 but nearly reached peak numbers again in 2021 nationwide.
Splashpad and pool safety
Splashpad safetySplashpads are a great way for young children to enjoy the water while reducing the risk of drowning. However, despite not collecting water in the play area as a pool would, splashpads are capable of spreading germs. Depending on the design, water from splashpads may drain into the sewer system or be treated and recirculated.Here are a few ways to stay safe while enjoying splashpads this summer:• Stay out of the water if you are sick with diarrhea.
Tickborne diseases and prevention
Tickborne diseases in IowaTick bites can transmit several diseases, including the bacterial infection Lyme disease, the most commonlyreported tickborne disease in Iowa. Other tickborne diseases found in Iowa include babesiosis, anaplasmosis,
ehrlichiosis, spotted fever group rickettsiosis, and tularemia. These diseases can cause illnesses ranging from mild
to severe, up to and including hospitalization or death.

La Porte City Specialty Care Receives 2023 Governor's Award for Quality Care
La Porte City Specialty Care, a member of Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA), has received the Governor's Award for Quality Care in Health Care Facilities for 2023. This award recognizes Iowa health care facilities that offer unique or innovative activities to enhance the quality of care or quality of life for their residents. Facilities are nominated for the award by residents and family members.
